Technology Considerations for Immersive Imaging Experiences
Ajit Ninan, VP of Technology at Dolby Labs in the Advanced Technology Group
Presentation Abstract
Ajit Ninan, VP of Technology at Dolby Labs in the Advanced Technology Group
Ajit Ninan is VP of Technology at Dolby Labs in the Advanced Technology Group. He leads Dolby's work in next-generation imaging technologies. His work was recently recognized by the Advanced Imaging Society with the Lumiere Award for pioneering HDR in Hollywood.
Ajit's group built the Pulsar display which is the first display technology at 4000 nits and P3 color gamut. This technology is used for HDR grading in Hollywood and there is still no product on the market that can match Pulsar as a reference grading display after almost 10 years. Ajit influenced the consumer TV market toward Quantum Dot displays by building the first-ever local dimmed QD display and working with 3M and Nanosys to bring HDR to the home. He also wrote and helped standardize JPEG-XT Part 2 also referred to as JPEG-HDR. He has started multiple projects at Dolby that range from the Cinema space to consumer licensing.
Prior to this, Ajit's work experience spans networking companies and video companies ranging from startups like Luminous Networks to larger companies like Motorola. His numerous inventions are manifest in over 300 global patents in multiple patent families and cover broad subjects from imaging, color video, audio, and networking. His current interests are in next-generation video for AR experiences and innovation process management.

Abstract
Technologies such as electric propulsion, composites manufacturing, and increasing autonomy are redefining flight. This is creating a renaissance in aviation. The fundamentally new capabilities in safe, simplified, low-cost, quiet, and vertical flight promise to vastly expand the use cases for flight to drive productivity across the economy, whether moving goods, moving people, or automating tasks. We will look at the drivers of this transformation, its historical context, and survey the broad implications it brings for the future. We will also address the opportunities this is creating today and entrepreneurial approaches to pushing toward realizing this vision.
