Vrinda Thareja

Vrinda Thareja is a Research Associate – Optics in the Applied Physics group at Corning Incorporated, Sunnyvale working on future-looking optical technologies like metasurfaces and their applications. Previously, she was in the Optical Sensing organization at Apple and led the system integration of the first, second, and third generation of ‘True Tone’ Ambient Light Sensors (ALS) in Mac portables (MacBook Pro and MacBook Air). She also led a team of engineers to ideate, develop, and demonstrate future-generation optical sensors as part of roadmap definition for the optical sensing organization.

Vrinda obtained her Ph.D. in Graphene Optics in Prof. Mark Brongersma’ s group at Stanford University. Her Ph.D. thesis work involved enhancing, controlling, and probing the interaction of light with graphene for optoelectronic and biosensing applications. She received her master’s in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi and bachelor’s in Physics from Miranda House, Delhi University.
