Serge Bierhuizen
Manager, Optical Systems Engineering at Meta
Serge Bierhuizen has been working on Mixed Reality Display Systems for the past 10 years and currently leads an Optical Systems Engineering Team at Meta Platforms Inc., which develops and ships millions of Metaverse Products such as Quest 2&3s, Quest Pro and Quest 3 with pancake optics.
After studying Applied Physics in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, he started the first decade of his career designing microdisplay engines for front and rear projection systems, including DLP, LCoS and high temperature polysilicon LCD display products at Philips Consumer Electronics, InFocus Corporation and Optical Coating Laboratories, Inc.
To optimize light sources for end to end application efficiency & color improvements, Serge designed high luminance LEDs and LED Modules at Lumileds and Xicato for various display systems (e.g. 2D dimming backlights) and high efficiency illumination applications, before transitioning back to his roots of Optical Systems Design at Google [x] / Daydream and Meta to develop the next generation displays & optics products. Serge received 90+ issued patents in these fields.
