BA-SID Professional Person Spotlight – Dr. Mike Krames

Dr. Mike Krames is a recognized expert in optoelectronics and semiconductor materials, with a career spanning leadership roles across industry, startups, and advisory work. He is currently President of Arkesso, a technology strategy and innovation firm supporting deep-tech companies and investors in semiconductors, optics, and photonics.

He is also the Founder and CEO of Opnovix, a stealth-mode startup developing advanced materials for next-generation display applications. Prior to Arkesso, Dr. Krames led advanced R&D teams at Soraa, Philips Lumileds, and Hewlett-Packard, contributing to breakthroughs in high-performance LEDs and their applications.

Dr. Krames is an active SID member and remains an advocate for the role of materials and device innovation in shaping the future of displays. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, a member of the National Academy of Engineering, inventor on more than 200 issued patents, and author on more than 100 publications.

Dr. Krames earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he focused on III-V semiconductors for optoelectronics. He continues to advise global organizations and governments on innovation strategy, energy efficiency, and the future of display and lighting technologies.
