RGB Superluminescent Light Emitting Diodes: “Incoherent Laser-Like” Light Sources for AR/MR Display Applications
Dr. Marcus Duelk, Chief Technology Officer of EXALOS AG
Presentation Abstract
We will review the current status of RGB SLEDs, their unique characteristics, and EXALOS’ development roadmap to achieve improved electro-optical efficiencies. Further, we will present micro-optical packaging approaches to support a compact RGB light engine for use with LCOS, DLP, spatial holographic and MEMS-based scanning displays in AR smart glasses.
Dr. Marcus Duelk, Chief Technology Officer of EXALOS AG
Dr. Marcus Duelk is the CTO and head of research, technology and product development at EXALOS, a high-tech SME located in the Zurich, Switzerland area. EXALOS is a worldwide leading supplier of superluminescent light emitting diodes (SLEDs), which are semiconductor-based broadband light sources. EXALOS is offering these special light sources in the near infrared at wavelengths from 750 nm to 1700 nm and is the only company that is also offering GaN-based SLEDs in the visible range and at the primary RGB colors.
Prior to joining EXALOS as the CTO at the end of 2007, Marcus worked at Bell Labs in New Jersey for more than seven years on high-speed optical networking. He holds a PhD in Physics from ETH Zurich and a Masters in Physics from Technical University of Berlin, Germany. He has authored more than 100 papers and holds several patents.
