Title: The Past, Present and Future of HDR

Abstract: From the early work on HDR imaging over the initial local dimming prototypes and finally the current emerging HDR displays, Helge Seetzen will recap the evolution of the technology over the last ~20 years. The talk will cover some of the key technical and commercial challenges that had, and in some cases still have, to be overcome to bring high dynamic range displays to the living room for everybody.

Speaker Biography: Dr. Helge Seetzen is an award-winning technologist, entrepreneur, and a recognized global authority on technology transfer and display technologies. As General Partner of TandemLaunch, he works with inventors and entrepreneurs to build high growth technology companies. His past successes include the transformation of raw university IP into fully commercialized LED TV technology, including selling his last company – Brightside Technologies – to Dolby Laboratories after sealing partnerships with several of the largest consumer electronics companies in the world. Helge holds over 50 patents in the fields of display, camera and video technology. As a technical leader, he served as the General Chair for Display Week, as well as currently on the Executive Board of the Society for Information Display. He has published over 20 journal articles, writes a regular column on venture capital innovation in the Information Display Magazine, and holds over 50 patents with an additional 60 pending US applications. Helge received a B.Sc. in physics and a Ph.D. in interdisciplinary imaging technology (physics & computer science) from the University of British Columbia.
